Temple of Community

Rue Morgue and the Blood Vessel sponsor the Temple of Community at Burning Man 2008! An American Dream… though we all may be different, together we are a community. We offer you each a way to flaunt your unique individuality in an art project which when gathered together will create
Sembazuru, the Temple of Community.

The Temple of Community is a thirty-foot-high rendition of an origami crane. On the playa, Sembazuru will be a temple for mourning, reflection and release. The crane symbolizes the act of letting go – of loved ones, places, feelings, ideas. It is a celebration of life, death and a starting anew, of making wishes, and finding peace together with our community that is united in this experience.

CALL TO ACTION!
We are asking theme camps, regional groups, as well as individuals to create their own wooden scaled-down version of an origami crane. These smaller cranes will be gathered around the base of the main structure to show that while we are all different, together we are a community! We will provide a burn platform large enough for the baby cranes, so all you need to do is make sure that your crane won't take flight on the playa winds!

The Blood Vessel - Rue Morgue teams up with Playatech to create the Goffin. Made from sustainable lumber sources the Goffin can be pieced together with NO hardware. Destined for the temple burn the Goffin will be used to hold the many cranes that will be folded by participants containing the well wishes of the departed.
